Sit in front of me. Breathe and arrive. Open the chest. Dive into the mystery...
In this interactive performance, I offer participants the opportunity to tune into themselves, individually choose a topic, draw a card and receive a response in the form of a still image and a video.
Each card and video explores themes, archetypes and symbols of the human spiritual journey. Through my body movement, staging and visual effects, I develop a language reminiscent of that of dreams, evoking associations and creating space for interpretation. I show participants the video that is connected with the card they selected. After they have watched the video, I invite them to draw meaning from it in communication with me. In part, "Chest of Mirrors" was inspired by tarot cards and shines a light on questions of chance or fortune: How come the card that I drew paints such a fitting mirror of my inner world? More importantly, “Chest of Mirrors” explores how we make meaning out of symbols and creates a space to tap into our inner experience, connecting with information we may already have inside ourselves. The card drawn and its connected video invite participants to process present topics through associating elements as metaphors of their inner world. At the end of the one-on-one performance, participants leave with a reminder of the experience and the meaning drawn from it. |
Here are brief snippets of the videos that are connected with the cards:
I have presented "Chest of Mirrors" as different performance characters and with varying installation aesthetics, each inspired by the context in which the project was performed.
