Hi, you arrived in an old version of this website.
Artist Statement
I combine audiovisual media, the sensed body and ceremonial elements to create experiences of self-exploration. My works encompass video series, performance pieces and immersive installations, where I sometimes interact with visitors. I focus on inviting participants to make a pause, tune into their present experience, and immerse in worlds that are poetic, mystical and perhaps magical. In my videos, I interweave my moving body with textures of nature and symbolic objects. I use visual effects to create a dreamlike language and evoke a sensory journey. I often incorporate interactive elements, such as guiding words in videos, written instructions in installations, or dialogue during live performances. Through a synergy of figures, colors, words and ideas, I aspire to give form to the poetic essence of our inner dimensions. My works seek to challenge traditional hierarchies of perception and experiment with new forms of connecting and interacting with our sensory awareness and psyche. I invite participants to come in closer contact with themselves and experience their own bodies, thoughts, dreams and desires. Short Bio Kia Kali is a video, performance and multidisciplinary artist born in Buenos Aires and based in Berlin. More About My Work My multidisciplinary practice encompasses video, performance, text, immersive installations and new media formats. For example, in my ongoing work Chest of Mirrors, I invite people to draw a card from a deck I created and then show them a video connected to the card they selected, evoking associations and encouraging personal interpretation. In Limbo (2022), visitors journey through multiple room installations following a narrative into a dimension between life and death, where I guide them into ceremonies honoring death. My exhibit Silencio (2022) presents two series of short video works accessed via Augmented Reality technologies, accompanied by an immersive video installation and a series of performances on the concept of silence. I am drawn to the liminal spaces between the real and the imaginary, the physical and the spiritual. What permeates my practice is a search for the intimate and imaginative states that can emerge when we blur out distractions, sharpen our senses and let ourselves be taken on a journey. I investigate how we can connect with our inner selves, our imagination and our environment to shift perceptions, discover further nuances of our senses and create new realities. ⬇️ Download CV
